Charity walk completed with Rehasense Walker

Stephen Collins completed his third charity walk to raise money for Ruddi’s Retreat

Rehasense UK was delighted to support Stephen Collins on his recent 7.5 mile charity walk in Huddersfield which was his third charity walk. Stephen was born with cerebral palsy on April 21, 1959, and his parents were told he would never walk. However, he proved the medics wrong and on the day before his 65th birthday, he did the gruelling trek for Huddersfield charity Ruddi’s Retreat which provides free caravan breaks for families with children battling serious illnesses such as cancer, have life-limiting conditions, or have suffered bereavement.

To help him walk, Stephen has used various walking aids over the years and for the last two and a half years he has used a Rehasense Server W Forearm Walker which he loves, and used on his latest charity walk.

It took Stephen Collins eight hours to walk from Slaithwaite to Castle Hill including the final three miles which were almost entirely uphill to one of the highest spots in the town.  Stephen initially aimed to raise £1,500, but live streaming showing the immense effort he was having to make in every step helped smash the target and he’s now raised around £2,000. Cars continually stopped with drivers eager to donate money into his collecting tin and the Just Giving page is still open here.

“What Stephen has achieved is incredible. To walk that far, mostly uphill would challenge most people, let alone someone with cerebral palsy using a walker. We wanted to do something to show how impressed we have been by Stephen’s latest challenge, and we were delighted to present him with a brand-new Server W Forearm Walker after he had crossed the finishing line,” commented Jordan Day, Rehasense’s UK Sales Manager.

“I would like to say thank you to Rehasense, I have always loved my Rehasense Walker as it is so lightweight, and it was a total surprise when they presented me with my shiny new one which looks amazing. I’ll have a rest for a few days and then start planning my next challenge as if I don’t use my legs, I’ll lose them, so I have to keep going. That’s what I’ve always done in life and that’s what I’ll continue to do,” commented Stephen.

The award-winning Server W Forearm Walker features forearm supports with height adjustment of 75cm to 98cm (medium) and 90cm to 115cm (large) and depth adjustment (13cm range) for maximum comfort. The supports also feature an integrated hand brake and parking brake lever. With a maximum user weight of 150kg, the Server W is one of the lightest forearm walkers available and has been designed to be used indoors and outside.  Unlike many models, the Server W can be easily folded to fit into a car for transportation and this folding design also ensures the user walks with a better posture compared to other front folding models. An easy to remove bag which clips on along with a practical small net bag are fitted as standard.
